2017 Abilene Education Foundation Scholarship Opportunities for graduating high school seniors in Abilene Independent School District

Abilene Education Foundation Scholarships

CRITERIA: The student must graduate from an Abilene ISD school by June 2017, be a U.S. citizen or
eligible permanent resident, possess a cumulative GPA of 85 or higher, and show active participation in extra-curricular activities and/or volunteer in the community. This scholarship may be used to pursue
an Associates or Bachelor’s degree at any accredited junior college or university.

Donor-Directed Scholarships

CRITERIA: The student must graduate from an Abilene ISD school by June 2017, be a U.S. citizen or
eligible permanent resident, possess a cumulative GPA of 85 or higher, and show active participation in
extra-curricular activities and/or volunteer in the community. This scholarship may be used to pursue
an Associates or Bachelor’s degree at any accredited junior college or university, as well as a
certification at an accredited technical or career institution.

AHS Alumni

CRITERIA: The student must graduate from Abilene High School by June 2017, be a U.S. citizen or
eligible permanent resident, possess a cumulative GPA of 85 or higher, and show active participation in
extra-curricular activities (preferably in a leadership role), volunteer in the community, and possess a
sense of school pride. This scholarship may be used to pursue an Associates or Bachelor’s degree at
any accredited junior college or university.

CHS Alumni

CRITERIA: The student must graduate from Cooper High School by June 2017, be a U.S. citizen or
eligible permanent resident, possess a cumulative GPA of 85 or higher, and show active participation in
extra-curricular activities (preferably in a leadership role), volunteer in the community, and possess a
sense of school pride. This scholarship may be used to pursue an Associates or Bachelor’s degree at
any accredited junior college or university.

Meta Alice Keith Bratten Foundation Scholarship

(Award is for $6,000 and is granted over a period of four years, pending minimum college GPA of 2.5.)

CRITERIA: The student must graduate from Abilene High School by June 2017, be a U.S. citizen or
eligible permanent resident, possess a cumulative GPA in between an 80-90, and show active
participation in extra-curricular activities (preferably in a leadership role), volunteer in the community,
and possess a sense of school pride. This scholarship may be used to pursue an Associates or
Bachelor’s degree at any accredited junior college or university.

Johnny Ortega Jr. Memorial Scholarship

CRITERIA: The student must be a male who is graduating from Abilene High School by June 2017, be a
U.S. citizen or eligible permanent resident, possess a cumulative GPA of 85 or higher, and show active
participation in varsity athletics (preferably in cross country or track). This scholarship may be used to
pursue an Associates or Bachelor’s degree at any accredited junior college or university, as well as a
certification at an accredited technical or career school.

BreLex Memorial Scholarship

CRITERIA: The student must graduate from an Abilene ISD high school by June 2017, be a U.S. citizen or
eligible permanent resident, possess a cumulative GPA of 85 or higher, and show active participation in
extra-curricular activities or volunteer in the community, and be the first in his/her family to attend
college (siblings excluded). This scholarship may be used to pursue an Associates or Bachelor’s degree
at any accredited junior college or university, as well as a certification at an accredited technical or
career school.

Michelle Scott “AHS” Memorial Scholarship

CRITERIA: The student must graduate from Abilene High School by June 2017, be a U.S. citizen or
Eligible permanent resident, possess a cumulative GPA of 80 or higher, and show active participation in
extra-curricular activities or volunteer in the community, and possess a sense of school pride. This
scholarship may be used to pursue an Associates or Bachelor’s degree at any accredited junior college
or university, as well as a certification at an accredited technical or career school.

Citizens Bank of Abilene

CRITERIA: The student must graduate from an Abilene ISD high school by June 2017, be a U.S. citizen or
eligible permanent resident, possess a cumulative GPA of 85 or higher, and show active participation in
extra-curricular activities or volunteer in the community, and possess a sense of school pride. This
scholarship may be used to pursue an Associates or Bachelor’s degree at any accredited junior college
or university.

AISD Transportation

CRITERIA: The student must graduate from an Abilene ISD high school by June 2017, be a U.S. citizen or
eligible permanent resident, and be a dependent of an employee in the AISD transportation
department. This scholarship may be used to pursue an Associates or Bachelor’s degree at any
accredited junior college or university, as well as a certification at an accredited technical or career
school.

Royce Curtis Excellence in Education Endowed Scholarship

CRITERIA: The student must graduate from Abilene High School by June 2017, be a U.S. citizen or
Eligible permanent resident, possess a cumulative GPA of 85 or higher, and show active participation in
extra-curricular activities (preferably in a leadership role) or volunteer in the community, and possess a
sense of school pride. This scholarship may be used to pursue a Bachelor’s degree at any accredited
university within the State of Texas.

Coach John McCabe Memorial Scholarship

CRITERIA: The student must graduate from Abilene High School by June 2017 and attended elementary, middle school and high school in Abilene ISD.  Preference will be given to a student in the academic middle of their graduating class and/or involved in varsity track/cross country.  Award amount to be determined.

Abernathy Scholarship

CRITERIA: The student must graduate from Cooper High school by June 2017, be a U.S. citizen or
eligible permanent resident, possess a cumulative GPA of 85 or higher, and show active participation in
extra-curricular activities (preferably in a leadership role) or volunteer in the community, and possess a
sense of school pride. This scholarship may be used to pursue an Associates or Bachelor’s degree at
any accredited junior college or university.

Cougar Nation Scholarship

CRITERIA: The student must graduate from Cooper High School by June 2017, be a U.S. citizen or
eligible permanent resident, possess a cumulative GPA of 85 or higher, and show active participation in
extra-curricular activities (preferably in a leadership role) or volunteer in the community, and possess a
sense of school pride. This scholarship may be used to pursue an Associates or Bachelor’s degree at
any accredited junior college or university, as well as a certification at an accredited technical or career
school.

Rising Phoenix Scholarship

CRITERIA: The student must graduate from ATEMS High School by June 2017, be a U.S. citizen or
eligible permanent resident, possess a cumulative GPA of 85 or higher, show active participation in
extra-curricular activities (preferably in a leadership role) or volunteer in the community, be enrolled in
the COOL program, and possess a sense of school pride. This scholarship may be used to pursue an
Associates or Bachelor’s degree at any accredited junior college or university.
